What you don't know. . .

Some things you may not know about our life in El Salvador. . .

We have an ant colony
at the head of our bed. (They mostly stay on the window sill so we haven't worried about them to much.  But now with the rain they have turned into winged ants and at times like to swarm the house.)

I play basketball every Monday night.

My name in spanish is "Adan" with an accent on the -an.

Whenever someone sees
us they always say "Adan. . .  y Eva!"  (Adam. . . and Eve!)

We eat rice and beans every day, often twice a day, sometimes three times. (And we are not tired of it yet! We always have it with avacado and gringo tortillas.  Well, gringo tortillas when we eat at home!)

We eat frozen watermelon after lunch each day.  It's really good, you should try it! (This is not Salvadorian cuisine. As far as we know we invented it.)

There are usually bats circling over our heads during worship in the gym.  No one even pays attention them even when the look like they might graze someones head.

We have a guard at our gate with a big shotgun.  Here there are guards everywhere.  In the city every store has one.  It was a bit strange to see a guy with shotgun standing outside the door to Burger King.

We have chikote fights.  (Chikotes are beetles that come out when the rainy season starts. They aren't very intellegent and if you throw one at somebody often they will stick)

I frequently eat (and drink) fresh coconuts while I am "working".

lot of those things are similar to mexico and puerto rico.  i wonder if it's like that with majority of spanish countries

Just fyi, your names in Arabic are:
آدم و حواء
(Adam and Huwa)

Love the chikote bit! Man I wish we had those here. We do have beetles, and sometimes the kids tie strings around them and "fly" them.

I eat beans about 2x a day too. But we don't have yummy avacadoes like you do. :(

Anywhere in Sana'a one is within eyesight of a juice stand where they sell fresh juice...mango, lemon (lime, actually), orange, ginger, grape, cantalope, raisin, etc. and it's really cheap.

We have lots of guys in town with Kalashnikovs. Oddly enough, our dorm "guards" are just kids with no weapons. I figure if al-you-know-who enters, I'll hear shots before they get to my floor and I can jump to the roof beside us. :)

Hey Adam,

Can you import a can of Raid to take care on those pesky ants?   In Florida we had problems with fire ants.   They leave a welt when they chomp on you.

I  also carry a shotgun.  It is a 12 gauge. I only use it on wayward squirrels that chew up the wires on my car.

We have bats in Virginia.  I wish we had more bats to keep the bug population  to a minimum.

I could eat Mexican food everyday.  I enjoy rice and beans.  Mary likes Italian food. I prefer Mexican.

If you threw a big beetle at Mary it would probably be your last beetle toss!!!!!!!!!

I think in El Salvador I would be Ricardo.

How long do you freeze your watermelons?  I hope you  keep all your  teeth intact.   I heard it was so cold at the White House one winter a few years back,  Bill Clinton chipped a tooth on a french-fry.

I hope you guys made it back to El Salvador.    Try your Barley Green mixed with grape juice if you can get grape juice,  or apple juice.  I would not mix it with anything highly acidic like grapefruit or orange juice.   I was in New Hampshire once time and I mixed Barley Green with some  extremely potent apple cider.   A few minutes later I was doubled over in pain.  I had stomach pain, chest pain, shoulder pain, etc..... I think my stomach was a seething cauldron.  After about an hour everything  went away. Never mix it with cider would be my advice to you.   I hope you are feeling better.   Let me know if it helps.

                                             Take care,

                                                          Ricardo(Rick)

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to avoid the apple cider, which shouldn't be a problem here.  Right now I am just taking it with water. . . and marshmallow root (doesn't taste at all like marshmallows) and slippery elm, and sometimes aloe juice.  Mmmmmmm.

We actaully have a can of Raid, we try to use it sparingly, seeing what it does to bugs makes me think it probably isn't to good for me either.  We save it for the cockroaches.
