another first

From Roanoke:

I had another "first" this evening... my former ASL (American Sign Language) instructor is teaching a level 1 class on Tuesday evenings... we've exchanged emails recently and she invited me to come anytime to sit in on her class... so tonight i decided to go.  She has a decent sized class, maybe a dozen folks.  More women than men, I really wanted to ask each of them why they were taking ASL... i think there was one set of parents there, and the woman mentioned something about how her son signed "dislike"...which brings me to what I think i want to do with this skill that I hope to perfect, or this language I want to become fluent in... work with parents of deaf children.  It's amazing how many of these parents don't learn the language... more on that soapbox later....

I helped Dedi with some of the practicing - she broke the class in two sections, she took one side and i took the other and I helped them practice a story they were getting ready to share with the class...I left the class before  it was over, but I left my email address for her to give to them if they wanted to meet to practice... they seemed interested in doing that... it helps me too you know... ASL is like any language I guess, if you don't use it you lose it. Hopefully i can get a little study group together.

Our late dinner of red beans and rice with turkey sausage is ready but more later...
