Mishaps in Spain no. 14

Friends, comrades, family, anenomes. Lend me your tears. This night is a good night because I am happy. Not to say that I am not happy all the other nights, but just that being happy at night is a choice as it is all all other times. Vespers tonight was up in the music building. There was a good message and it was rather refreshing. I am really starting to get into the whole groove here. If that´s what you can call it after already beeing here about four months. I practiced cello for about five hours today. About an hour and a half with the orchestra and the other hours I was practicing with Marisa on the piano. We are going to be doing special music this coming Monday for week of prayer which starts tomorrow. We are going to be playing ¨Be Still my Soul¨. We´re starting in E flat major and transposing for the last little glitch into F. It´s coming along well, and it is really nice to play the cello with someone on the piano. Something I haven´t done in a long time.

Yesterday, those who wanted, the school took us to Valencia to go to there Science museum there. It was pretty cool. Cost 8 euros. They had some neat things to do. They even had a Foucalt´s pendulum. We actually got to see it knock on of the balls off of its mount. They also had this dark room that you could go into, and it had two walls that were made out of this fluerescent material. There was also a bright light that would flash on at intervals in the corner of the room, so if you posed in front of the wall, when the light would flash, it would leae your imprint on the wall. That was a lot of fun. They also had this double sided mirror that had adjustable lights on both sides, so when two people sat on either side and put there faces exactly the same distance from the mirror, it would morph our faces together. That was really cool. They also had this display of a large spring, when you went to touch it though, your hand would go right through it. It was some kind of a light trick. It didn´t even project on your hand. It was really wierd, because it didn´t even look fake at all. It looked completely real. Kind of creepy actually to think of what people could do with it. While there we also went to there IMAX theater where they showed us a movie about the destruction of coral reefs. It was really cool, but I kind of wanted to see the movie that they also showed there about the adventures of
Sir Ernest Shackelton. Maybe we could go see it when the family is over here. To hear the video we had to put these futuristic-looking things on our heads, so that we could hear the video in whichever language you wanted. (Choice of Spanish, Catalán, English, or French.)

After the museum, some of us went to a nearby mall and bought some candy. I think I ate too much, ´cause Iwas feeling rather sick to my stomach. I couldn´t actually finish it all, so I had to leave some for today, and I finished it up before lunch.

This quarter I am in the club Cocina Mexicana, no it is not a night club Christina. Every wednesday we get together and make Mexican food and then we eat it. It´s all great. They are actually starting up a few more dishes at the cafeteria that they didn´t have before. Somehow it seems better this quarter anyway.

It has been really cold here this last week. It rained a lot today and was windy with some lightning and even some thunder. No snow though. We all keep wishing that it will get cold enough so that the reain will turn into snow. Right now it is just miserable. What´s the point of it being really cold if it´s not going to snow? Well, that one´s beyond me.

Tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow is sunday, a bunch of us ESDE-S students are going to a flamenco dance. It is kind of expensive at 12 euros per person, but it isn´t that bad when you consider that we are getting 50% off for going as a group. It is usually 24 euros per individual. I´m thinking that that will be very interesting cultural experience, since I´ve never been to anything like this before. One of my professors told me though that he went to one once and it was really awesome, so I´m hoping I won´t regret that outflow on cash later.

I am going to be sending my application in next week to be an RA in the dorm next school year. So in short, right now, my life seems to be working out pretty good.

¡Que tengáis un buen día! Wink

Hey Tim, it is good to read about your experiences there.  I'm glad you're happier there now than before.  That's a good idea to have a Mexican food club - that should satisfiy some basic cravings.  We just had a Mexican food feed here too.  Our supervisor just visited and brought refried beans, flour tortillas, taco sauce and seasoning and velveeta cheese.  Along with the things we've come up with here to similate mexican food - we had quite a feast complete with pico de gallo, corn tortillas, etc.

I'd love to go see the Shakleton thing, and I know papa would too.  And the science museum sounds very interesting.  Would it be above Dyilin's head or do you think she'd enjoy it too?  Is it at all scary?

Flamenco dancing - tell us about it.  How did you like it?  Pretty incredible guitar playing, as I recall from the little I've heard (not seen) flamenco music.  It is truly Spanish music right?
