The revelation was passed
The revelation was passed through a number of different parties, but always with the intent of getting the revelation to "[Jesus'] servants." These are covered in verses 1 and 2. Here's how I read them:
- God gave it to Jesus
- Jesus gave it to his angel
- Jesus' angel gave it to John -- "and [Jesus] signified it by his angel unto his servant John"
- John gave it to us -- "John: who bare record of the word of God"
