Forum feature feedback

I am working to improve the usability of the NoLessDays.org forums.  Please take some time to explore and experiment with the new presentation and offer feedback.  Both praise and criticism are appreciated.

I would particularly appreciate some feedback on how forums and forum categories should be organized.  Ideas about helpful features is also greatly appreciated.

Currently, the forums page is very large.  This is because I chose to create a separate forum for every chapter in the Bible under Bible study: Old Testament and Bible study: New Testament.  (Currently, not every chapter has been created.)  It will take some development effort, but I plan to change the presentation to hide some of these subforums from the main page.  I am curious to know what kind of priority the community places on this particular improvement.

time and forum topic

I mentioned this in my other post, but thought I'd add it here. On the right where there are recent comments in the forums I really would like to thave the time that the comment was made as well as the forum topic it correlates to.

Added timestamps and topics

Done.  I also added the age of forum topics and the number of posts that it has received.  I wish the number of posts said, for example, "1 post" instead of just "1."  But alas, I can't easily do that.  Y'all think it's okay the way it is?

nld suggestions

1. On main page have a featured song, poem, etc of the month. Or featured artist. This would be a way of spot-lighting someone's talents.

2. Change the color and graphics

3. I noticed on the forum page the column on the right "new forum topics." This is a bit confusing as they are all bible study topics. Are these really the latest topics or am I missing something?

4. What about putting all recent forum comments on main page under recent comments, or was the idea to keep all forum content and comments off main page? If so thats ok but kinda miss checking all new comments with just one quick look.

5. Thanks for all the work on NLD. I know it is time consuming but I am sure we will have a better product in the end.

  2. Any specific ideas on this one?  There will (at some point) be a complete website redesign that will include changes to the forum.  (I mentioned this in my TODO list here.)
  3. I just added a bunch of new questions on Revelation 1, so this is actually correct.  I had another block that displayed "Active forum topics," but took it down as it didn't seem to add.  Maybe it would be a good way of highlighting the hot stuff in addition to the new, though.  Thoughts?

The idea was too keep forum discussion off the main page.  At some point, I expect all new comments to be moved off the page.  In replacement, we will use the forums page, blog page, etc. to view recent comments in each cattegory.  An addition to this, we could provide a single page that showed all new content and all new comments -- or I could provide blocks that did this, and leave them turned off by default.  Users, like yourself, whoul like this view, could turn these on, and turn off the others.  Is this a good idea?

Featured song

I added a "Featured song" feature.  It appears as the first block on the right on the home page.  Perhaps we could have nominations and a vote for a new one each month... it might be fun. :)
