Mishaps in Spain no.16

Wow, what a night! And it´s only begun. Jamil, a moroccan kid just went to the hospital because apparently Roberto shoved him and so Jamil got mad and punched the glass door which shattered and cut him all the way up his arm. I heard the shatter just as I was finishing my orange. I didn´t go out immediately because I thought that someone had just busted a plate or something. Anyway, I been pluggin´ away at school. I do believe my Spanish is getting better.

My rrommate Hernan moved out a couple days ago, so I am living by myself. It is kind of lonely, but I thinkit may be worth it because I have a lot more room to put all my junk. He moved because, this is what he said, that Eric and his roommate Sebastian weren´t getting along, so Sebastian was going to move out to live with his brother and Hernan was going to move in with Eric. So, I am left with a ton of space that I don´t know what to do with.

I just finished eating my ritual Friday night bowl of Ho-Mi Pancit Canton (Think Top Ramen but more asian). I eat two packages every week, and I only have three packages left. So I´m going to have to think of something else. I went to Carrefour today; first time in a while. I usually didn´t go before, because they used to get back really late, well late enough for me to be late to orchestra. Anyway, I bought some powdered hot pepper and some garlics, and a pint of mandarina juice. (Can´t think of what mandarina is in english right now, but it is like an orange, but the skin comes off easier. No it´s not a mandarin!) The pint was only seventy-four cents and if you bought one you could get four kilos of Valencia oranges for free. I thought that was a pretty good deal, so I went for it.

Friends, comrades, family, anenomes. Lend me your tears. This night is a good night because I am happy. Not to say that I am not happy all the other nights, but just that being happy at night is a choice as it is all all other times. Vespers tonight was up in the music building. There was a good message and it was rather refreshing. I am really starting to get into the whole groove here. If that´s what you can call it after already beeing here about four months. I practiced cello for about five hours today. About an hour and a half with the orchestra and the other hours I was practicing with Marisa on the piano. We are going to be doing special music this coming Monday for week of prayer which starts tomorrow. We are going to be playing ¨Be Still my Soul¨. We´re starting in E flat major and transposing for the last little glitch into F. It´s coming along well, and it is really nice to play the cello with someone on the piano. Something I haven´t done in a long time.

Mishaps in Spain no. 13

Hello everybody,

I have finished the second week of classes of the new quarter. I finally got my grades today. I was pretty discouraged, ´cause they are pretty bad. I got a C for my cello lesson, just cause I failed to show up a few times. Its not like me to skip class, but it really wasn´t my fault the times that I didn´t show up. There was a confusion with the schedule. They had actually told me wrong. I was sick one day. Told the dean, but I guess they failed to tell the teachers like they were supposed to. And the last time I guess could be counted against me although it wasn´t really my fault either. Hernan bought our train tickets for too early in the day, and so I had to leave before my cello lesson. I did try to tell them. I went to the department office, but whoever was supposed to be on duty wasn´t there.

Well hello there all you peoples. I haven´t blogged for the last few weeks as many of you know because I was busy having fun in the Philippines. Yes they did have internet, but it was so slow and unpredictable that it was rather impractible to try and blog every week. With that said, let us proceed to the issue at hand.

I actually don´t feel alot like writing right; mostly because I am really tired and I just want to go to bed. Nonetheless, I will attemp to regail you with my recent adventures, blunders, and yes even mishaps.

I guess it is obvious that I did finally get my ticket to the RPI. I was very glad to see it. Other than being rather long, the flight to Manila was rather insipid except for one fortunate experience. It happened in Manila. When I was going through the place where they check your visa and take a bunch of money from you the lady at the counter informed me that I had overstayed my welcome by two days She told me that I would have to extend my visa at another counter on the other side of the room. I asked her how much it would cost and she told me; 2000 pesos. Well, that was a lot of money but it wouldn´t have been half as bad if I had even had that much money on me. I fretted for half a second and then I thought, well, I´ll just plead mercy. We had been talking a little bit before this about what my parents were doing in the RPI and what I was doing, so I decided to appeal to her that I was basically a national since I had lived there half my life. Well, it worked. Yay.

How do I remove my name etc. from the subject or title line on my comments.  It just kind of appears - I'm not typing it in....

A Lesson from Hebrews 3

This morning I read Hebrews 3 . I was cut to the bone. The chapter is presenting a type/antitype comparison of Moses and the Israelite nation to Jesus and His church. The last part of the chapter really got me thinking -- and praying for forgiveness.

16Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17And with whom was he angry for forty years? was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? 18And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? 19So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. - Hebrews 3:16-19, NIV

No, Lord! Not another one!

You could say this hasn't been too good a day.  One of our patients died this morning - a young boy of perhaps 8.  He was home with his mother, but still under our treatment.  Then just as we were getting close to closing time at the clinic, we got word from our student missionary helping four patients we had at the hospital in the lowlands, that the baby we'd sent out earlier that week (and had barely made it!), had in fact just died!  NO Lord!!  Not another one!!  Today was Sunday.  Sabbath we heard about another child that died - one we simply couldn't get to in time.  Another older gentleman who had been under our care for months, finally went home against medical advice and we just heard that he died last week, as did his elder brother.  So within the last week - five deaths.  Pretty sobering.

¨Ahhhhhhh!!,¨ he yelled ferociously as he dashed through the line of waiting travelers. Waiting in line wasn´t exactly Timothy´s dream of the perfect vacation. Nonetheless, he had suppressed the urge to become violent for almost an hour and a half until...

Now, that I got y´alls attention. That´s not exactly what happened. I just arrived back in Sagunto last night to get my paper ticket of which Stephanie mentioned in ¨Ever wonder if Miracles still happen?

I have been at Hernan´s place up in the outskirts of Barcelona in a little town called Valles Ametlla, or something like that. I can´t remember Catalán names so well, ´cause I don´t know what they mean. It was quite an interesting experience. Especially since I was vegetarian. Well, I won´t go in to all the details here, its too embarrassing, but I will say that I managed to be vegetarian most of the time. For those who care, I am still resolved to be a vegetarian!

Ever wonder if Miracles still happen?

I have been trying to get a ticket for my brother for some time. The first one that I bought, was some how not bought, so Somer and I began looking for another ticket a week and a half before he was to fly out. By that time all of the tickets had jumped from 1600 to 6000, a very large leap that I was not inclined to make. After searching for a while we found a paper ticket for 1500, the one and only 1500 ticket. I called the airlines only to find that they were no longer shipping to Spain with so short a notice. When I got back on to review the ticket it was gone, and I felt really bad because I figured my brother would not be able to have Christmas with us in the Philippines. But just to make sure all his fate was sealed I called another number to the airline only to find that they still had the ticket(1500), but I would have to send it to Spain. It was going to be close, but I bought it. This was the tricky part. The airlines would send it to me overnight, I would get it Friday morning get it in the mail by 11:00 and get it to Spain, or to make the equation more complicated, to Timothy by Tuesday morning so he can catch a train and fly out Thursday morning from Barcelona. To say the least I was worrying about it when I went to bed Thursday evening. Deciding there was no good reason for me to stew about it I decided to add God into the equation, a very smart move, I said God, I work from 8-12 on Friday and I have to get the ticket and send it before 11 when the mail goes out, so you will have to tell me when it gets here so I can come get it. In the morning I went to work and was busy trimming a bush at 9:50 when God said, " quick go get the ticket". so I went. I ran to the dorm, ran to my mailbox, and excitedly peered into an empty box, " thanks a lot God." Because I was already at the dorm I ran up to my room to get my hat, as I was running back out, God called again, " run back up and get your First Responder kit"
